Artist's Comments

I've really been trying to expand my skills as a painter. For this piece I took a different approach and worked looser with thicker paint.
I was trying to capture the influences of the French Romanticists Théodore Géricault and Eugène Delacroix.

thank you--it's exactly what I was going for :)

so many people reference Dorian Gray when they look at my work...and I have no problem with that :)

it really goes with it, especially the darker coloring. it reminds me of portraits we studied in our arts & cultures class

That's a huge compliment--I practically worship those artists and I'd love to be able to paint like them some day. I look at their work and it blows my mind because I just don't understand how they put so much liveliness into their work.

This is beautifully done. Very classic, which I think is something that's missing in painting today; everyone seems to be going for the modern look and abandoning the great styles of the past. I really do love it.
Thank you very much--I agree with you...many contemporary artists forget that much of making great art is taking the time to study great art.

Beautifully done. The darkness of the work really sets the mood, and all the colours work wonders for each other. The detail in the face, as well as the rest of the painting, and exceptionally done.
Great job.
