Time For Some Thrilling Heroics by hever Time For Some Thrilling Heroics by hever
Just went to a screening of Serenity at the local theater, so I was compelled to do another Jayne painting. Nerd. *cough*

This one is acrylic on MDF with a bit of iron paint that I rusted for that nice, grungy effect. The size is 7 1/2"x14".

Props to `jademacalla for the awesome stock that made my research for source images SO much easier: [link]

This has such gritty textures! The iron paint was a great idea!

The tiny thumbnail on my phone made me think this was Seth Rogen from pinapple Express... pleasantly surprised cuz it looks way more like Firefly.
Really cool overlay and rustwork, gives it such a traditional media appeal

Great likeness of him, and a suitably actiony pose for him. Very cool!

Thanks sir!

You changed your avatar...and it totally threw me off. It's been a while, so hope all is well on your end :)

Yeah. My wife made us a web-site, so I changed the avatar on here to match the web-site avatar. And I was getting a little bit tired of that tiki one.

Well thank you! I showed your comment to my wife and she was flattered as well. Yeah, we're both really proud of how the site turned out. We even used it as some of our "evidence of bona fide marriage" for her green card application. haha.

Many thanks :) In March I received DD for my other Jayne painting, so I don't know if they'd even consider this one.

Many thanks!
Iron paint is a product used for creating realistic patina on any kind of surface-- it's a paint with iron particles in it and when you add an activator after it dries, it will rust. I've used it a lot at work on a large scale when painting grungy, rust-ridden scenery. It's a product that isn't easily controlled, as you're left up to the chemical reaction, but that's part of what makes it look natural. I've also found that in addition to the rust activator, vinegar will create a variance in the color of rust that appears and once a patina sealer is added, it enriches the texture. It's a fun product-- lots of steps, but fun. :)

Why don't they screen nice things in my neighborhood? ;P

When I saw this, I heard a hundred Mudders scream out the title. Good gorram job.

Amazing work.

It helps to live in a city :)

And many thanks. The Mudders have so little, figure I should do my part to make their world a little brighter.
